Urban Perspectives Abstract Show at FilmScene

Happy Hour + Art at the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art First Friday reception at FilmScene! Stanley First Fridays provide an ideal chance to usher in your weekend, enjoy the work of local artists, and mingle with other art-enthusiasts.

The November 2018 First Friday features internationally-collected equestrian artist Lisa Marie Bishop. Bishop has found new inspiration in walking through city streets, picking up reflections on glass, metal and water. Urban Perspectives marks the debut of her first abstract works on canvas, inspired by the energy between architecture and people flowing through a cityscape. These large, vibrant works in acrylic and oil are defined by a frenetic sense of urban energy, and have a fractal quality informed by a condition called Stargardt’s, which alters Bishop’s ability to see details and certain colors.

“Urban Perspectives” was a huge success at FilmScene. Thank you to Jean Rude, The Stanley Art Museum of Iowa, and FilmScene for hosting the event. One of the reviews” “This collection is not typical of the Midwest…it was New York through and through. One could feel the energy of urban life, refreshing perspective.”
